and community services. He is an integral part of Kinsmen Place Lodge's

any symptoms or changes in residents’ conditions. Nursing staff are

Nurse is on duty 24 hours a day.

for the billing process. The pharmacy provides regulatory policies and

residents' medications on a regular basis, communicate with the resident's

NUTRITION
We recognize the
importance of food in meeting not only the residents' nutritional requirements,
but also their cultural, physical and social needs. We are committed to
serving the best possible meals in a warm, friendly and happy environment.
The diet of each
resident takes into consideration any special needs which he/she may have, in
addition to food likes and dislikes. The nutritional status and care of
each resident is assessed on a regular basis. Residents and families are
encouraged to actively participate in the planning of menus through the
Residents Council.
Any food obtained from
outside the Lodge kitchen should be given to the dietary department for
safe storage and handling. This food will then be served to the
resident as part
of their regular diet. Snacks may be kept in the residents' room as long as they are
in a sealed container and are regularly checked for spoilage by the
resident, family or staff.
All meals and snacks
are served in the dining room, and each resident is assigned a table.
Tray service is provided for residents who are ill. Self-serve coffee is
available in the main lobby during the day.
Guest Dining
Residents who wish to
have a guest for a meal are asked to notify the Receptionist at least 24
hours in advance. There is a nominal charge for guests. As table space
in the dining room is limited, residents and their guests will be seated
in the activity room.

FINANCES
How are residential care rates
calculated?
The daily rates for
user fees are determined by the Ministry of Health. Rates are based on an
individual’s income and are calculated by the Region using the resident’s
last tax return.
Residential care rates
are based on residents’ “Remaining Annual Income.” This figure is derived
from the last tax return from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency
(previously Revenue Canada), using the dollar values of lines 236 and 435,
calculated as follows:
If a resident of a
care facility is married and their spouse is still well enough to remain
at home, the rate calculation is done two ways: The first calculation
includes family income while the second considers only the resident’s
income. The lower of those two rates is applied.
·
Residents’ net income (line 236)
·
less Taxes paid (line 435)
·
less Annual deduction of $10,284 (if single) or
annual deduction of $16,752 (if married)
·
